Understanding CGPA and the 9.5 Conversion Multiplier
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is the metric representing the average grade point obtained in all subjects by a student. When CBSE introduced grading, a statistical benchmark of previous scores demonstrated that students scoring in the 91–100 interval had an empirical average of ~95 marks. Dividing 95 by the maximum 10-point scale produces the standard 9.5 conversion multiplier.
Calculation Example:
If an applicant holds a CGPA of 8.6, the equivalent percentage is computed as:
8.6 × 9.5 = 81.70%
